So You've been thinking about a lot, and maybe that's what this small allotment of time was for. Rather than suffer through the boredom, you took a new approach to what the fuck you'd do with your time; oh precious time. Check out the whole produce isle of volunteer opportunities and everything costs no less than a soul or living in Texas for the summer (equated about equal on the horribleness scale); so you check out with an empty cart and think: "What else can I do?"
Eat enough cinnamon rolls to make you sick in the mean time, slowly stuffing your face with the slovenly cream cheese laced carb bombs -- pensive. Browse monster.com to no avail, your profile looks the same as it did when you first created it, all the job openings require 5 years work experience and/or a master's degree in engineering. Well Fuck.
This is no more disillusioning than before, and maybe you can blame it on the economy like everyone else is; but maybe you don't want to hop on that band wagon either. So you think: "Where can I go?" And then it hits you, your two small less-than-25-lb dogs barking and yelping in the background, keys jingle, and your dad steps through the threshold -- You think you'll go to pharmacy school.
Why not? It does feel like a bit of a coin toss, a gamble, a cheddary fetch ifyouwill. You make a pretty tragic engineer as you know all too well, you meet almost all the prerequisites already with the minor in chemistry. You can graduate with the engineering still, spend the next few semester studying for the MCATs or whatever test pharmacy schools want, spend some time looking into your options. And your dad is a fucking pharmacist manager! Do you have a better role model?
So this is where you get a little excited over a whole lot of nothing that's not even going to happen for another year and a half, not to mention the thought of at least forty grand a year in tuition really just makes you want to jizz in your pants. At least you have a new direction, a new breath, a new goal.
Heads or tails, you should just vomit an answer right now while you still can, because it's exciting like playing roulette, the kind you play with your life. Regardless of how things turn out though, at least you will have your dignity, which is kind of like telling people about your inner beauty after a failed attempt at plastic surgery. You will make it. You have to.
Justify to yourself: Everywhere is always looking for pharmacists, especially bilingual ones, and that's more than you can say about engineers.
Hope: There really is something on the flip side.
